Meanwhile in the hood

Curchack August 19, 2014

The background showing the outside of Oliver’s apartment is somewhat old and I never really liked it for various reasons, and some of the backgrounds that appear early in the VN already received some touch-ups. Here’s a sketch kinda thing.

More fixing.

August 12, 2014

Caprice fixes are not much to show really, since they’re just tweaking the poses.

Someone else is getting little work done too.

A little bit more and I can tackle the biggest issue(s) that is Mekki’s sprites, which should be fun as it’ll be pretty much a complete rework since there are a few technical issues to fix too!

Street background, part one

Curchack August 4, 2014

One of the scenes in the demo was supposed to have a different street background, but the one we already had was one of the oldest backgrounds and not very pretty, so we just used the one outside the apartment because of time constraints. I’m making a new one now and I thought it’d be fun to post some sketches and updates and so on.

First thing I did was making some very simple shapes to get a feel for the composition and size and so on, then I made a quick rough sketch over that to continue figuring out how it should roughly work. Here’s that sketch:

And now that I roughly know how the background should look, I don’t know how to end this post.

Ringtones

Pradius July 19, 2014

In the latter half of Act I, Ollie is going to give his number to the girls. I established early on that I was capable of  fakebit and Paper Cookies turned into the generic ringtone. But it’s cute if Caprice and Mekki have their own ringtones of their themes, so we did that. Here’s Mekki’s.

Oh also there’s this thing https://soundcloud.com/pradius/wip-20/s-3Tbvu that I’m working on if you want something ~new~

the re- and reiterative process of drawing

All-Maker July 18, 2014

Since very early in development, it was decided Oliver would meet Caprice in the classroom. He’d sit down, look to his side, and next to him would be a girl with a top hat. And he’d probably regret sitting there. So, I got to work quickly.

Look at her cute little skirt. And LONG pencil. At the time, I was still pretty known for my greyscale shading style.

But as an artist, I’m always improving, and my old stuff just wouldn’t cut it with the new stuff. So in between working on other CGs and slacking off, I redrew.

Colored by me.

When we were still working on colors, trying to approach a style, I tried out a lot of stuff. I went through several things through every version of this CG trying to come up with something the team agreed would look good.

Sometimes I was a little out of my element.

But eventually it was decided Curchack, who had come up with a coloring style for our sprites and our BGs that we felt really fit our style, was the only one who could do the same with the CGs. I swear I didn’t just lazily push the work on to him.

By the way, here’s the exact lineart for what appeared in the demo. She switched sides and position in the classroom after the previous ones because the writing had a specific place for her.

Still, time continues to wear on and I continue to improve and change as an artist, so revisiting again won’t hurt.

But it’s still a work in yeah you get it
